Today I celebrate the 5th anniversary of the release of my picture book THE SEAGOING COWBOY! And I share with you here a new video of me reading the book.
A short interview with me by “Sammy the Toucan” for the Indiana Center for the Book about my picture book THE SEAGOING COWBOY premiered last week on the Indiana State Library Facebook page. It is now available on YouTube and you can listen to it here. It was great fun talking with Sammy! Enjoy!
The debut young adult novel of my fellow TaleBlazer and dear friend Mary Ann Steinke-Moore is now available. MANDY’S SONG, published by Pelican Book Group, will speak to young people who struggle with self worth. It’s a wonderful, heart-warming read about young hopes, dreams, and love. Congratulations Mary Ann on this long-awaited milestone!
Four years ago March 31, THE SEAGOING COWBOY set sail!
Happy birthday to THE SEAGOING COWBOY!
Thanks, Claire Ewart, for your beautiful illustrations that brought the story to life!
And thanks, Brethren Press, for a great ride!
You can find me at two book signings next week autographing copies of The Seagoing Cowboy. Sunday, November 24, I’ll be at the “Meet the Author” event at the Springboro Historical Museum, 110 S. Main Street, in Springboro, Ohio, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. And Saturday, November 30, I’ll be at the New & Olde Pages Book Shoppe, 856 Union Blvd, in Englewood, Ohio, at their Holiday Open House from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The Seagoing Cowboy makes a wonderful Christmas gift for that pre-school or elementary school student on your list! Stop in and say hello if you’re in the area. If you’re further away, the book can be ordered through Brethren Press.
This Saturday, April 27, is National Independent Bookstore Day. My two favorite stores are New & Olde Pages Bookshoppe in Englewood, Ohio, and Better World Books in Goshen, Indiana. Visit yours this weekend!
Children’s author Peggy Archer has posted an interview with me on her Peggy’s Pages blog. Check it out to see what inspired me to write the book, what kind of research and marketing I did, current projects, etc.
Independent bookstores mean the world to authors. They are our champions. I celebrate them today and encourage you to patronize your favorite indie today and every day. My favorite: my local bookstore, Better World Books in Goshen, Indiana.
Claire Ewart’s vibrant illustrations bring the story to life, and book designer Paul Stocksdale’s map illustrated with historical photos following the story adds tremendous value to the book.
I’m grateful to Brethren Press for taking on this project and to all the seagoing cowboys who have shared their stories with me. You can purchase the book here.
Claire Ewart and I will be signing books at Better World Books in Goshen, Indiana, from 6:00 to 8:00 tomorrow night, April 1 (no fooling!). I’ll have my private launch party on Saturday, then head on down to Little Rock, Arkansas, where I’ll be presenting at Heifer International as part of the Arkansas Literary Festival on Saturday, April 16. Watch my events page on this website for something near you.
It is with great pleasure that I announce the launching of my writers group friend and cohort Karen Kulinski’s RESCUING IVY. This middle grade historical novel, inspired by a true story, is the tale of a girl and the elephant she loves. Danna’s late-night visit with Ivy, the circus elephant, results in the animal being wrongly condemned to death for killing a man. When nobody believes the girl that Ivy is innocent, she sets out to save the elephant herself, teaming up with a circus boy, her older brother, and two hoboes.
Karen kicked off her launch Sunday, March 20, with a circus-themed party for which several members of our TaleBlazers writers group were present.
TaleBlazer member Sharon Biggs Waller was unable to attend, as she was in New York City promoting her newest YA novel, THE FORBIDDEN ORCHID, which she launched March 12. From the book jacket:
Elodie is a dutiful daughter and sister.
Elodie is a reckless, romantic stowaway.
Elodie is a brave plant hunter.
Where does she truly belong?
Two great books by two of my great writer friends!
